Job Description

Airbyte is the open-source standard for EL(T). We enable data teams to replicate data from applications, APIs, and databases to data warehouses, lakes, and other destinations. We believe only an open-source approach can solve the problem of data integration, as it enables us to cover the long tail of integrations while enabling teams to adapt pre-built connectors to their needs.

Within the past 24 months, we've built over 200+ connectors and we've had 25,000+ companies replicating data with us. We've raised $181M from some of the world's top investors (Benchmark, Accel, Altimeter, Coatue, Y Combinator, etc.) and believe in product-led growth, where we build something awesome and let our product bring the users, rather than an outbound sales engine with cold calls.

Airbyte is remote friendly, with most of the team still based in Silicon Valley. We’re fully transparent as a company. Our company handbookcore valuesmethodologystrategy and roadmap are open to all.

If you find this role exciting, we encourage you to apply even if you think you don’t meet all requirements.

Opportunity:

You will own the security policy and posture at Airbyte.  You will both identify vulnerabilities and help automate systems to make us safer.  You will create and implement systems for global compliance.  You will translate legal requirements into technical requirements by working with our law team.  You will source and disseminate external security audits.  You will lead others toward a more safe place.

This job differs from some other security roles in that we want you to be able to implement some of your own suggestions to help automate our security stance.  You will be a part of the Production Engineering team.  Our team solves problems related to production with a focus on empathy and the end user experience.  We are excited to work with you.

What You'll Do:
  • Find creative solutions to complex questions, such as how to balance development velocity trade offs with a secure production environment
  • Simplify manual security processes into a clear and opinionated path forward
  • Make meaningful security design decisions to scale Airbyte into the future
  • Understand the largest manual compliance and security pain points for specific teams and help both plan and build solutions that work for that team
  • Improve security with a focus on the human experience
  • Communicate clearly with your end user: the engineers
  • Choose understandable solutions over clever solutions
  • Contribute to and help shape Production Engineering team’s roadmap.  You will have a say here
  • Drive and participate in major architectural initiatives
  • Own the success of Airbyte!  (But like for real… we want to hear what you have to say)

What You'll Need:
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience
  • Deep interest in the practical application of security
  • Interest in compliance based projects (GDPR/SOC2/etc…)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A desire to understand how developers and customers are affected by the choices you make
  • Proficiency in writing automation with a focus toward readability
  • Deep expertise with CI/CD systems, preferably Github Actions and Helm.
  • Experience writing code in Java or python
  • Intermediate level of experience with gradle, git and Docker
  • Willing to work remote
  • A passion for continuous learning and improvement (both at a personal and team level)
  • Belief in our values

We provide:
  • Fully remote flexible work environment - we don’t look at when you log in, log out or how much time you work. We look at your output and we trust you; it’s the only way remote can actually work.

  • Sponsored Travel - we are a fully distributed, 100% remote-first team, however, we recognize the value of in-person time. We sponsor annual company-wide retreats, team offsites, and Travel With Purpose in between to allow you to collaborate with your team in person on a regular basis.
  • Open book policy - we will pay for books you purchase for your professional and career development.
