Applied Research Internship - Fast distributed training framework

About the role

During this internship, you will work with the open-science and open-source teams at Hugging Face to help develop a fast and flexible framework for training large - 100 billion or above - Transformer models over distributed computing infrastructure. You’ll test and integrate features from cutting-edge research papers, and help make state-of-the-art innovations accessible to all, concentrating on scalability and speed - the key ingredients that make today’s large model research possible.

At the intersection of open-source and open-science, this internship will have you interact with researchers from a thriving branch of science, as well as maintainers of one of the most active open-source ecosystems. We aspire to put you in a position to do your most impactful work yet.

About you

If you’re resourceful, detail-obsessed, and are looking for a high-impact project to make deep learning go fast, then we can't wait to see your application!

The ideal candidate should have:

• Experience with Pytorch or another deep learning framework of choice
• Experience training large (>1B) models, involving sharding and/or parallelism techniques
• Experience collaborating on a shared code base
• Strong engineering and good communication skills.
