Job Purpose

Janes is searching for an experienced Data Governance Manager to be based at our Croydon HQ. This role will be working across all Janes Research, Data and Analysis departments with the objective of applying high-level data governance principles to our content and data assets. This includes, but is not limited to, unstructured content in the form of news, analysis and images, structured content, and the overarching Janes content and data model.

Joining our friendly Content Architecture and Data Governance team, you will report into the Executive Director for Content working closely with a small group of colleagues who are responsible for the conceptual and logical framework of the Janes data model, the metrication of Janes content/data assets, and with members of the team who are working as Product Owners for our content platforms.

As this role will be focused on our productised content, data, and workflows rather than business data we are looking at the extension of a lightweight framework within which we can operate standardised processes with pragmatism being key. Where possible these governance processes and steps will be built into existing workflows and tools.

This role will also be the key liaison between the Research, Data and Analysis area and our Product teams, working closely with Product Owners and Managers in those areas to coordinate releases and documentation, and our technical teams, including technical data governance colleagues, data architects, and the wider development teams.

How you will contribute to Janes

  • Lead the establishment and management of the quality, consistency and standardization of rules and practices for governance across Janes customer facing unstructured and structured content
  • Drive the establishment and expansion of a positive data culture through the delivery of a training and communication plans in collaboration with the team
  • Consult with content/data leads and data architecture across the organization to define, implement and monitor the data governance framework
  • Create and implement a common documentation standard across Research, Data and Analysis for all processes and procedures, including change control and versioning
  • Curate the organisation’s data governance knowledge and information assets, including the data catalogue, data models, data glossary and documented data standards from a content perspective
  • In conjunction with the Data Metrication Principal measure data performance, lifecycle and quality metrics and ensuring compliance with data related policies, standards, roles, and responsibilities
  • Working with the Data Architect to ensure consistence and coherence between the content governance processes and policies and technical processes and policies
  • Ensure that data quality issues are logged, tracked, and remedied in a timely and effective manner
  • Provide training and mentoring across teams and to individuals around data governance as concept, governance tool sets and standards that can be applied, and the advantages of good data governance

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in data governance, content governance, the design and application of data/content/editorial standards or similar
  • Familiarity with established data governance frameworks such as DAMA, as well as examples of their flexible application to genuine business challenges
  • The ability to translate complex business or technical concepts in to easily understood messages for colleagues at different levels of the business and with different levels of experience with data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including communicating with different audiences and the ability to communicate complex and/or difficult messages in a clear, concise, and empathetic manner
  • Experience in data/content modelling and or graph database technologies and ontology development would be an advantage
