Job Description

Canonical is hiring a Technical Partner Manager to join the Server Certification team. The Technical Partner Manager owns the technical part of our relationships with our Silicon and OEM/ODM hardware partners and helps develop and maintain the tools which enable us to test Ubuntu Server on the latest enterprise hardware ensuring Ubuntu users have the best experience with their hardware. We work at the interface of hardware and software, so the ideal candidate is a developer familiar with enterprise server hardware and has experience interacting with everyone from Engineers to Executives.

We work together with silicon companies, OEMs, ODMs and teams within Canonical to ensure a smooth, secure out of the box Ubuntu experience, with success in this role leading to a great Ubuntu experience being offered on more and more devices. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys problem solving, software development, and creating and maintaining good partnerships with the biggest names in datacenter hardware.

What you’ll do

  • Technically support the partner / customer in their hardware certification efforts.
  • Educate the partner about Canonical’s tools, processes, and product roadmaps.
  • Be the partner’s advocate to support, sales, and engineering teams within Canonical.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to hardware compatibility, functionality, and performance.
  • Support Canonical’s internal teams on engagements that utilize the partner’s hardware.
  • Contribute to driving the Ubuntu Server Certification program forward as new technologies emerge.
  • Work on development projects that help test enterprise class hardware.
  • Work from home with global travel 2 to 4 times per year for internal and external events.

Who you are

  • Demonstrable experience of success in a customer-facing technical role.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of server-class hardware, firmware, and software.
  • You know your way around Linux, virtualization, and cloud computing concepts.
  • Knowledge of the Python programming language.
  • Comfortable with shell scripting.

Desired skills and experience

  • Experience with test automation tools for validating hardware compatibility.
  • Comfortable with virtualization or container technologies such as QEMU, KVM, LXC / LXD, Docker.
  • Familiar with data analysis in for example Python or R.
