Digital Democracy’s mission is to work in solidarity with frontline communities to use technology to defend their rights and fight climate change. As technology becomes cheaper and more accessible, we believe it can and should be used to bring more voices to the table. Digital Democracy helps our partners achieve transformative change and works toward a world where all people can participate in decisions that govern their lives.

We are a global team spread across 8 countries and 3 continents. We are a collection of journalists, developers, geographers, designers, anthropologists and more. We work together to support communities who are working to defend their human and environmental rights, but who lack the tools to do so.

Our local partners represent the global majority who face historic and ongoing marginalization, including Indigenous Peoples and ethnic minorities, whose human rights are most severely impacted by environmental abuse. We train partners to use basic digital tools to gather, share, and manage information about environmental and human rights infractions.
