By OSJH Team
We previously announced that Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the global non-profit organization offering certifications and career support for open source professionals, is now a sustaining partner of Open Source JobHub (OSJH).
Through this partnership, LPI helps provide ongoing support for OSJH in its goal of helping developers, engineers, managers, marketers, and others within today's open source tech industry find the perfect job fit.
We recently spoke with LPI to learn more about the organization’s overall goals and other ways in which they are committed to supporting the open source ecosystem.
OSJH: Why did LPI choose to sponsor OSJH?
LPI: LPI's mission is to promote the use of open source by supporting the people who work with it. Open Source JobHub does exactly that, by showing people career options in the open source sector. Not just in the technical field, by the way.
OSJH: Why is open source in general important to LPI?
LPI: Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is the global certification standard and career support organization for open source professionals. It embodies the ideal of enabling economic and creative opportunities for everybody through open source adoption, knowledge, and skills certification.
Being part of a sharing culture, we want to help spread open source knowledge and encourage its adoption because education has repeatedly demonstrated itself to be fundamental to sustainable and lasting economic development.
OSJH: What initiatives is LPI currently focused on?
LPI: We are always looking for people who share our social mission to grow and advocate for the use of open source software, one person at a time. At lpi.org/community, we offer them a number of opportunities to showcase their talents while serving a larger mission. And we also call on people there to support other projects.
Since October, we've also been part of the Upgrade to Linux initiative, through which many open source enthusiasts are working to promote Linux as a cost-neutral, secure, and stable operating system for people who are interested in an alternative to what they use now. More information about this initiative can be found at upgradetolinux.com.
